Microsoft gets LinkedIn

With the announcement that Microsoft has bought LinkedIn for $26bn, are we going to witness this social network strengthening its hold on the social media for Business sector – or will it be tarnished by Microsoft’s ‘less sexy than Apple’ branding?

linkedin logoFacebook dominates the ‘most popular social media’ position and isn’t showing any signs of losing grip in the near future, so other social media platforms are playing to their niche strengths.  It will be interesting to see whether the Microsoft Office package will now come with an integrated LinkedIn component.  Whatever the developments, it seems a good match for both companies and will almost certainly offer new and useful benefits for their users.  We’ll be watching that space.
