Shop Local this Saturday!
It’s the biggest shopping day of the year this Saturday – and the Small Business Saturday campaign is encouraging people to use their local independent shops.
Fenland has many fantastic small independent shops, and the success of the local economy is dependent on the support of local people. Nickie Bantoft, from local Wisbech firm Bantofts Accountants, said “The independent sector is important to the economy as a whole, with over half of the private sector turnover coming from small businesses – and that proportion is higher locally, as we have fewer large chains and shopping malls than more urban areas. Local business needs your support, so shop locally this weekend and help our small businesses here in Fenland.”
Anne Crosson from The Rose and Crown in Wisbech Market Place, said “A busy Market Place is good for all local businesses, so we’d encourage people to come and use our fantastic local shops. And we’re open all day long for those necessary refreshments!”
Businesses can download information packs about the campaign at http://www.smallbusinesssaturday.com. And Nickie Bantoft is keen for local businesses to use social media to get their message across as well: “We think Twitter is a great way to get your message out to lots of local people, so use #SmallBizSatUk and #Fenland, and we’ll retweet everyone’s messages, hopefully everyone else will too!”
